Apahua; misión del corazón
Apahua: A mission from the heart
Abstract
This article is not a formal research paper, but rather a personal account of an experience with the work that the Salesians carry out around the world, involving education, social relationships, community aid, and love for others. I have written this piece from my own perspective, following the opportunity I had to be part of a missionary journey focused on the pursuit of well-being, with the help of complete strangers who, over time, became one of my greatest inspirations.
The article describes a mission whose purpose was to serve and share with the community of Apahua, in Guaranda. It is a symbolic and emotional narrative that aims to touch the hearts of its readers.
As the reader progresses through the text, they will be able to imagine what life is like in an Indigenous community in the central highlands of Ecuador. Sometimes, we don’t look beyond the city, the ticking clock, and our daily responsibilities. With this story, we aim to provide the opportunity to understand life in an Indigenous community.
Moreover, if the reader is a young person, we hope that this story does not end when the last sentence is read, but that it has the power to awaken feelings of motivation to participate in similar activities committed to service. On the other hand, it is important to emphasize that our goal is not necessarily to inspire young people to travel to the other end of the country and live in an Indigenous community, but rather to help them realize that just by being who they are and where they are, they can be a perfect tool to help those in need.
Keywords: Salesians, missions, work, sharing, solidarity.
