El arte de danzar en mi alma
The art of dancing in my soul
Abstract
Every activity, custom, piece of music, rite, tradition and religious act is part of the cultural compendium of a people. How diverse Ecuador is, full of folklore in all areas of its history, which nourished the cultural richness it possesses.
During these years, I have been able to learn details that are not learned in school, but rather, with the closeness to the indigenous peoples, the experience of meeting women in the field of art and the replication in our choreographies.
I am a folkloric dancer, I dance and I value the music of our country as well as South American music. It is in dance where I found the call of indigenous identity that in my family history was hidden, because not all of us have the openness to recognise that we are half indigenous, half Spanish descendants, so that, without hesitation, I followed my heart and began to search for that percentage that represents me and runs through my veins, as if I needed to go out and show others what we were, to determine what we will be in the future.
It is approximately five years of knowing the folklore in the artistic expression of dance. Through it I have been able to get to know Ecuador in geography and traditions; the province of Azuay in all its extensions; my city, Cuenca, as part of my being and my own body as a temple of the spirit. We have been able to reap physical and soul triumphs, in other words, the change in my life, thanks to art, the use of free time, discipline and perseverance.
Keywords: folklore, Andean music, passion, culture, joy.
