Abstract
The coronavirus outbreak began in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where it was detected on December 31, 2019. The disease spread rapidly across all continents [1]. On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic (Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of the WHO, 2020). In Guayaquil, the first positive case was confirmed on February 29; in the following days, more cases were found, which is why on March 12, the Ministry of Government and Education announced the suspension of classes throughout the country in response to the state’s declaration of a health emergency. In light of everything that had happened, it was announced that classes would be completed virtually [2]. Under these circumstances, students in the Sierra and Amazon regions were forced to study through digital media, and those in the Coast region began their 2020-2021 school year in the same way. The purpose of this article is to learn about the learning experience of students, from ninth grade to second year of high school, from different schools in the city of Cuenca. Surveys were conducted using the Messenger messaging app. These focused on learning about students’ experiences attending online classes and whether they had the necessary tools to complete the assigned activities.
