Abstract
The TikTok platform has been a high-impact social network worldwide since 2021, with a particularly strong presence among young people. As a medium inherent to the digital age, youth are influenced by its content, whether in the realms of entertainment or learning. Educational content, in particular, motivated this research; therefore, we designed an experiment to evaluate the veracity of scientific videos on TikTok, the results of which were heterogeneous.
The applied experiment, known as the “bouncing egg,” involves submerging an egg in vinegar to dissolve the shell so that the membrane gains elasticity, allowing it to bounce without breaking. Following the execution, we verified that most videos on the platform were truthful; however, some were not or presented incorrect procedures compared to others. Thus, the stated objectives were met, and it was concluded that TikTok is a highly influential application for the digital generation, in both daily and academic contexts.
Keywords: TikTok, youth, experimentation, validation, content.
